Apr. 12th, 2008 11:38 pm Only For Now...

Why does everything have to be so hard?
Maybe you'll never find your purpose.
Lots of people don't.
But then- I don't know why I'm even alive!
Well, who does, really?

Everyone's a little bit unsatisfied.
Everyone goes 'round a little empty inside.
Take a breath,
Look around,
Swallow your pride,
For now...
For now...

Nothing lasts,
Life goes on,
Full of surprises.
You'll be faced with problems of all shapes and sizes.
You're going to have to make a few compromises...
For now...
For now...

But only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now!

For now we're healthy.
For now we're employed.
For now we're happy...
If not overjoyed.
And we'll accept the things we cannot avoid, for now...
For now...
For now...
For now...

But only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now!

Only for now!
(For now there's life!)
Only for now!
(For now there's love!)
Only for now!
(For now there's work!)
For now there's happiness!
But only for now!
(For now discomfort!)
Only for now!
(For now there's friendship!)
Only for now (For now!)
Only for now!

Only for now! (Sex!)
Is only for now! (Your hair!)
Is only for now! (George Bush!)
Is only for now!

Don't stress,
Relax,
Let life roll off your backs
Except for death and paying taxes,
Everything in life is only for now!

Each time you smile...
...Only for now
It'll only last a while.
...Only for now
Life may be scary...
...Only for now
But it's only temporary

Ba-dum ba-dum
Ba-dum ba-dum
Ba dum ba-dum
Ba-da da da da
ba-da da-da da da-da
Ba-dum ba-da, ba-dum ba-da
ohhhh-

Everything in life is only for now.

What Allison Means

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.

You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.

You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are well rounded, with a complete perspective on life.

You are solid and dependable. You are loyal, and people can count on you.

At times, you can be a bit too serious. You tend to put too much pressure on yourself.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

This has been an amazing winter break. I haven't felt this happy in quite some time. I don't know what else to say besides that, just that I am so thankful that I was able to come home and get back to my roots. I have a new head on my shoulders going into this term and despite the fact that I'm actually exhausted, I feel refreshed and ready to tackle whatever this semester may throw me. I LOVE ARIZONA. But even more than that, I love all the people in it.

I don't even know why I bother calling them. Nothing ever changes and it just puts me in a bad mood. I don't want to talk about it any more, but never, EVER, EVER bank with Bank of America. They are the worst bank ever.

That is all.

I just got back from my fiction workshop--boy, that went over a lot better than last time. I wrote a piece about Avondale, my grandma's house, and people seemed to like it. Several even said it was publishable if I did a bit of tweaking! They meant in a magazine/Reader's Digest kind of thing, and I think that might even have been a criticism in their eyes, but being "wholesome" (as they described it) and writing simple little pieces come much easier and more naturally to me than all that pretentious stuff. I guess I'm just more of a simple gal, ha ha.

Anyway, it's made me think twice about my dissertation. I'm not sure whether I want to do it in fiction or scriptwriting. I want to continue the Avondale pieces and put together my "Tales from Avondale" anthology or whatever, but at the same time, scriptwriting intrigues me so much and I've been getting decent feedback in there. I don't know who the new tutors are for the spring, but if I had to pick I'd rather my scriptwriting tutor oversaw my work. I just don't know. I talked to Ember (my coursemate, the American one who I kind of look up to) about it and she said to go for it with the scriptwriting since we're not really workshopping in there and then just keep submitting Avondale pieces into the workshop. That way, I still get the feedback on the fiction but get to take the scriptwriting a step further. Georgina (my scriptwriting tutor) already gave me the go ahead for a TV show as well, so I could be writing Monica and I's TV show as my dissertation if I wanted to! I just don't know what to do and he wants to know where we're leaning before the holidays (aka two weeks!) Yikes! Thoughts?

Nov. 15th, 2007 08:57 am Brrrr...

I woke up this morning to sunlight peaking in through my window. I thought this was a good sign since I wanted to run into town this morning and take care of a few errands (aka take back a couple of the more impractical things I purchased on my shopping spree).

Anyway, it's been cold the last few days, but with the sun shining I was optimistic. Unfortunately, in my half awake state, I also forgot that the sunny days here have actually been the coldest. Go figure. And, when I pulled my blinds open this morning I found the ground covered in a thick layer of frost. Temperature outside: 29 degrees. Oh boy.

Less than a month until I'm back in Sweet Home Arizona! Bring on the heat baby!

May. 21st, 2007 07:33 pm EUROPE!

So, sitting here at an internet cafe in IRELAND!

Europe is just as amazing as it was before. I am just as tired from traveling all around as I was before and possibly even more stressed out, but it's all good. Just happy to be here. If you want me to send you a postcard, just send me your address, you know!

It doesn't get dark here until, like, 10 p.m. so I think Monica and I are going to take a walk over to St. Stephen's Green and sit and do some reading. Today we walked all over the city and saw St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublinia (a must-see for all the kids at heart out there), Christ Church Cathedral, Old Jameson Distillery Should be quite nice, very much looking forward to the next few days as well, will probably post again from Norwich! :-)

Apr. 1st, 2007 10:08 am The April Panic

So, I woke up last night in somewhat of a panic. I'm not quite sure why, but I was really stressed out about where I am going to be living next year. I don't know why this was such a concern of mine, but I was seriously scared about not getting accomodation at the university I end up going to, and getting over the U.K. only to find out that I hadn't made proper living arrangements and I was homeless. So I spent my morning looking up the best places to live for postgraduates at Nottingham Trent and Swansea. Yes, it has come down to those two universities. And if you happen to know ANYTHING about either of them, I'd really appreciate some input. Because I have no freaking idea where to go, and I only have two that I'm picking from now. (The fact that I've narrowed down to the two makes me quite proud though! :-) YAY!)

This sounds really silly and it occurred to me later this morning, after speaking to my parents for a looooooong time on the phone yet again about what I'm doing with my life, that today is the first day of April. Remember when that meant April Fool's Day and "Yay, the year is almost over!" and summer vacation and lots of other good things? Since I started college, April has always been kind of a hellish month with no breaks and everyone in a panic and I think that could not be more true this year. (And okay, I lied, last April was amazing, but usually it's one of my least favorite months of the year.)

But this year, April means decision making, and hearing back from programs and schools, and lots of changes and stress. And so I started to freak out a bit more because, well, a lot people I know still don't know 100% where they will go to school, where they will work, or even which country they will be living in next year. And it just scared me a bit and made me kind of sad to think that our undergraduate college careers are coming to an end and we'll all be separating so soon and all that sentimental stuff. It broke my heart to say good bye to the people in England last year, and I had only known them for six months. To say good bye to people here, some of whom I've known for years... TEARS. DRAMATIC. SAD.

So, for everyone out there who is about to enter the April Panic, I just hope (and know) all of you will land on your feet (like we all always do). It'll all be over before we know it, and then there will be loads of celebrating and fun. And until then--make sure you keep me updated on where all of you amazing people will be going this summer and next year so I can keep in touch!

Feb. 21st, 2007 12:40 pm Ash Wednesday

So, today is the first day of Lent. Even though I don't consider myself Catholic any more per se, I am used to giving up things for Lent every year. Last year, I gave up sweets... which was kind of cheap because there were certain rules and things and everyone thought I was cheating...

Anyway, this year, I thought about it and decided that instead of giving something up, I would use these forty days to do nice things for other people. Call people more often, write letters... just on the whole be less harsh and selfish, and be more thoughtful and considerate. That's what I'm going to try to do at least. Random acts of kindness. I have no idea how this will work, especially because these first few days I'll be gone, but I reckon I'll think of something. I am hoping this is a better way to "celebrate" this season. And I hope ya'll have a great next few weeks. :-)

Jan. 23rd, 2007 10:53 am Keep Those Fingers CROSSED!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

It's been such a great week I can hardly contain myself. Yes, I am one of the thousands of Tucsonians who thought the snow a couple of days ago was, for lack of a better word, AMAZING. There was something so magical about everyone running outside and screaming excitedly like children. So good.

And today, I got a call from the Tucson Unified School District... I HAVE AN ORIENTATION TOMORROW AT 8:00 a.m.!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I think I have A JOB!

And, to top it all off, I have an interview at the Marriott at Star Pass today for ANOTHER job. We'll see what happens, but I'm so excited I can barely sit still to write this. I guess my long break is finally coming to an end.

The "real world" looms. I don't think this is quite it, but it's definitely a step in that direction.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

Dec. 29th, 2006 03:08 pm 2006... Best Year Yet

1) Where did you begin 2006?
I was at Danielle's house having a Harry Potter marathon with her and Valarie. D.J. and Tyler stopped by for a while as well. And Amanda called from Disneyland to give her annual "May this year bring..." toast.

2) What was your status by Valentine's Day?
Single... but technically I had a "date," and it was even with the guy I wanted. Ha ha ha.

3) Were you in school (anytime this year)?
Yep! Well, for at least a small portion of it. :-P

4) How did you earn your money?
I just got loads of money from my family for graduating, and also a lot of help from the parents.

5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
No, I've been pretty healthy this year!

6) Did you have any encounters with the police?
No, I really am a good girl.

7) Where did you go on holiday?
Italy, Austria, Amsterdam, Paris, all over England...

8) What did you purchase that was over 500 BUCKS?
Plane tickets... and if you add up all the grad school crap, that too.

9) Did you know anybody who got married?
Lieschen, Stephanie Presson, I'm sure there were others...

10) Did you know anybody who passed away?
Not directly, thank goodness.

11) Have you run into anybody you left high school with?
People here and there. You're bound to run into them eventually. Unless you're counting all my high school friends that are still some of my BFFs. Then, yes, practically every day.

12) Did you move anywhere?
I moved to ENGLAND for six months! Amazing.

13) What sporting events did you go to?
ICECATS! "DIE Goalie!!!! Wait, that's not how it goes..."

14) What concerts/shows did you go to?
If by shows you mean plays or musicals, then I saw "Fame," "Les Miserables," and "Wicked." All so effing good, I just love to go to the theatre. And I'm seeing "Dancing with the Stars" tonight!

15) Are you registered to vote?
Yes, but not in freakin' Pima County.

16) Who did you want to win Big Brother?
Who cares?

17) Where do you live now?
Tucson.

18) Describe your birthday.
The night before, my flatmates took me to dinner, then to get drinks at my favorite restaurant, then bowling. It was actually loads of fun, a PG birthday felt really nice. The day of my birthday, we went to the pub and got third place in the Pub Quiz. Our team name was "Chuck Hutton Investigates." I still have my Guiness bandana and toe socks. YES.

19) What's the one thing you thought you would never do but did in 2006?
Had a drink. Had several drinks. Drank in the day time. Generally got wasted. A lot.

20) What has been your favorite moment?
Couldn't pick just one... there have been a lot of magic moments.

21) What's something you learned about yourself?
One thing? I don't know. I was talking to Marina the other day about how we've all grown up a lot. I think I just learned that there are a lot of good people out there in the world, and you have to give yourself the chance to meet them.

22) Any new additions to your family?
A couple of my cousins had babies, so I guess so?

23) What was your best month?
Ha ha, this would be near impossible to pick. April was good--began with the craziest week of work and fun I've ever had, and then there was all that traveling. May and June with all the relaxing and quality time with the hall were really great too. The rest of the year was really fun too though... except for maybe the summer months after coming back from Europe. Those were a bit... rough.

24) What music will you remember 2006 by?
EUROPEAN POP!!!!

25) Who has been your best drinking buddy?
Um... obviously it's Maria. Three words: Poor Life Choices.

26) Made new friends?
Yeah, some really great ones.

27) Best new friend?
I don't think I can answer this. Of course I love, love, loved the kids from Waveney L2, and there have been a few this semester and over the summer that I've gotten to know quite a bit better.

28) Favorite night out?
Oh... man... I have no freakin' idea. Too many good ones to tell.

29) Any regrets?
I find this to be an impossible question. The simple answer is... yes... and really, no.
